Ornament Wreath Tutorial

Hello my loverlies!

Here is the tutorial for the ornament wreath I wrote about here.

Here is what you will need: glue gun, ornaments, ribbon and a Styrofoam wreath.

I also used these as a filler - you can find them at hobby lobby.

I used the smallest ornaments I could find and a smaller styrofoam wreath (10"), and ended up using around 80 ornaments and a few handfuls of the filler balls.

Start by taking off the hook caps (i'm not sure what the real name for them is) and then hot glueing the ornaments all around the wreath.

There really is no wrong way to do this, I went around once in a line and then just kept going, I haven seen others who, using large ornaments, spaced them evenly around and then filled them in with smaller and smaller ornaments. After you have gone around two or three times you will start to notice open spots. For that you just use whatever ornaments you have left and pile them on. (You will start to just glue ornaments on ornaments)

Here is what I had after I was done.

You then just wrap your ribbon as long as you need tie a bow and hang it. Super duper easy, took me about 1/2 a college bowl game.

I plan on working on a much larger wreath after Christmas for next year. I wasn't planning on making this wreath yet either, but Joann's had a huge 60% off sale so this wreath cost about $10 to make. Going to wait on more after Christmas sales to grab the larger ornaments. I'm all about the deals y'all.

The Most Wonderful Time of The Year

I have included one of my favorite Christmas songs for you to play while you read. I'm so considerate aren't I? :)

My favorite time of year is here and I am so excited! I'm not sure what it is about Christmas that gets me all worked up but I love it. Maybe its the cold weather, seeing family or shopping.

One of my favorite things to do is after Christmas shopping. When all the ornaments/trees, wrapping paper and decor is super duper cheap.

Side Note: I also love the day after Thanksgiving when I am putting my tree up and get to pull out all the fun stuff I bought at last years sales, it is almost like I get two Christmases!!!

There are also so many amazing craft ideas running through my head!!! Such as this cute ornament wreath I made. (Tutorial to come shortly)

New Obsession

Yes folks, I have a new obsession! Crocheting.

I tried knitting, didn't quite work out. Crocheting seems a lot easier. I have even started to sell some of my creations on my Etsy shop! So take a gander if you so choose :). I will also be doing another give away soon so look forward to that!

It was a great weekend, football, family and food. Could it get any better. Oh yes, oh yes it can.

While some of the family was over a woman came to the front door. She was deaf (I assume) since she was motioning that she needed a pen and pad of paper. So I grabbed the items and brought them to her. This is what she handed back to me.

Say whats!?!?! How about a big NO?!?! The thing that makes me laugh was that she gave me a dirty look and just went to the next house.

My sister in law asked, "Isn't this how murder mystery movies start?" This woman was not the most approachable looking person if you get my drift.

Oh well, it's stuff like this that makes life interesting right?

I was tempted to just post the picture and not write anything. Seriously does this really need an explanation?

How violently do you eat soup that you need a hair shield. Don't get me wrong, I love slurping down a huge bowl of noodles, but I apparently am a tame noodle slurper since I don't have dripping wet noodle broth hair afterwards.

The worst thing about this picture is every time I look at it, I want noodles. It's 8am and I want a huge steaming bowl yummy noodles.

Scent-O-Rama!

Fall.

I love the changing of summer to fall. Especially since I loathe summer. I love the cooler weather, changing of the leaves, warm apple cider, pumpkin patches and football.

I also love the warmer smells for fall. I get to change my candles to some yummy cinnamon spice or pumpkin vanilla scents. I also take my bi-yearly visit to Bath & Body Works. Oh yes. It is on!

I swear I smell so many different kinds of body sprays that my nose hairs are probably burnt off by the time I leave the store. But I just love picking out a cozy warm smell to take me through the fall and winter. The warm vanilla sugar or brown sugar and fig. Can you smell what I'm laying down?

Can't wait for the weekend to venture out and grab my fall/winter scent of the year. Oh, and grabbing some maternity clothes, I apparently am not going to be one of the cute basketball bellies that I had so hoped for. Only 4 months and I only have two pairs of pants left that I can button. (I say button but that doesn't mean they are comfy.)

There are a lot of crazy things in this world. I figured why not give it a day on the blog. For the inaugural What the What!?!? Wednesday I present to you:

The Funnel Bacakonator.

That's right, a funnel cake topped with bacon. Sold at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Now, don't get me wrong, I will polish off a funnel cake like no one's business. But, to be honest I'm not the biggest bacon fan, so this does not look good at all. Nope. Not good.

I am going to rank this ~~food dish~~ ~~meal~~ heart attack infused item up there with deep fried butter. Down right nasty. Mr. Bacokonator if your nasty.

Baking Up A Storm!

Whew! Let me tell you all, I have been baking like a mad woman and I am tired!

I love to bake, and I love trying new recipes. So when this opportunity came for me, I couldn't resist. It's a very complicated recipe and has taken a lot out of me. I will tell you it is the hardest thing I have ever made.

The recipe is mixture of two ideas from two different cultures. Korean and American. I know it will come out beautifully. So, after combining the ingredients I bake at 98.6 (it's a slow bake recipe) for 9 months and then viola, on April 15, 2012 the bun will be ready to come out of the oven!

Yes peeps I am with child, four months along and I am so excited!!! It was by far the hardest secret I have ever had to keep! I can't wait to share this experience with you!

Hello loverlies!

How was your weekend? I had a great weekend! Made some great food, baked and found some amazing clothing deals. It was also an awesome football weekend. All my teams won! Woohoo!!!

I attempted my first yarn wreath and I think it came out pretty good. I will definitely be making more of these soon!

I also had the pleasure of dog sitting for a friend.

Isn't she the cutest?

Oh, I should mention, Bella and Snoopy are an item.

Here they are just hanging out watching football with me. Now Snoopy is 5 years older than Bella, so there is that little bit of controversy there. But, if they love each other who are we to judge.

As for my awesome clothing deals, have I mentioned how much I LOVE clearance deals? $5 flats & $10 jacket from Old Navy, $5 & $6 skirt and dress and a few $3 layering tanks from Target and two $8 shirts from GAP. I mean come one people!!! All these I can wear through the fall and winter season coming up so I am stoked!

Hoping this work week flies so I can have another great weekend! We are planning on going to the Renaissance Festival, gonna be chowing down on the awesomley huge turkey legs! Can I get a Yumm Yumm and a Woop woop!!!

Exciting news! The Pioneer Woman has a tv show on Food Network!

I KNOW! So exciting! Her blog is so funny and her food is Uh-mazing! She also has an obsessive love of her dogs, so I feel like we are BFF's already.

I know for sure I will be watching with envy while she whips up some awesome food in her awesome kitchen! If you haven't already head on over to her blog and do try her cinnamon rolls. The best evar!!!! You can also follow this link with some additional information on her show.

A batch of her cinnamon rolls I whipped up a while ago. Delish!!!

I have also hear rumors that Reece Witherspoon is going to be playing her in a movie!!!! Gah!!!! Could it get any better!?!?!?!? This was a while ago that this was circulation and I have yet to hear more about it, I would be sad if it never comes to fruition!

What an inspiration for bloggers everywhere. Just goes to show, be true to yourself and share your passion with the world and who knows what it will bring!

Just a quick post about something awesome!

If you are ever tired and in a hurry you need this!

This is one of my staple go to's on a night that I am too tired to try and don't want think about making anything. Usually takes me around 20 minutes and it is sooooo good!!!!

They also have a frozen version which comes with the chicken in it. Obviously more expensive. I usually get the boxes on sale and with a coupon for around $3-$4.

Not bad for a super easy and yummy dinner option.

Well hello and Happy August!

This past weekend I participated in the Warrior Dash and it was awesome!!!

It is a 5K with tons of obstacles and crazy hard hills and trails of mud. There was a group of us signed up and our heat wasn't until 2pm. Thankfully it was not as hot as it has been. But, I still came away with a little sunburn.

At the very end after jumping through fire, yes fire, there was a huge mud pit you had to crawl through since there was barbed wired 3 inches above so you couldn't stand.

Finally, I got what I was looking forward too, my huge turkey leg.

It was a great day!

Oh boy here we go! Ladies and gentlemen, Kansas City will soon be getting a H&M and Sur la Table store.

O - Em - Frickin Geeee!!!!

Yup, we are sooo fancy pants now. Both of these stores are on my faves list and I cannot wait. I was content on H&M starting to sell to the US online, but now, oh yes, but now I can actually go into a store!

I am on cloud 9 and I will probably squeal like a tween who has just seen R-Patz. You know what I'm talking about.

I do not. I'm I have made everyone well aware of my disdain for hot weather. Now, we are in a Heat Advisory through the weekend! Oh joy. Please note the sarcasm.

There is a small glimmer of hope on Sunday. A very small glimmer.

So, since the dog days of summer have arrived with a vengeance, I have decided to make the most of it. Here are a few thing on my list to keep myself happy, occupied and cool!

Spend hours on my new obsession - Pinterest. A place where you can let your imagination go and get great ideas for the home, style and crafts!

Opposites Attract

Husband and I are as opposite as you can get personality wise.

Me - Extrovert. I love being around people, going places and doing things. On vacations, I want to go sightseeing, I would not do well going to the lake for 5 days and just sit around "relaxing". I would go crazy.

Out. Of. My. Mind.

Husband - Not a people person. Likes to be alone and would love a vacation just sitting by the lake. Don't get me wrong, he likes to hang out with friends. But, he would not willingly go to a place with lots of people, example: amusement parks.

I have always loved Jennifer Anniston.

Every since FRIENDS (which I still watch religiously on DVD) I have loved everything she has done. She is my American Idol. Ha! Yes, I would probably act like one of the millions of girls who throw themselves after RPatz, but it would be at Jennifer Anniston. (Please don't stop reading my blog, I'm really not crazy. Really...)

Anywhoo, I recently came across an article about her new movie "Horrible Bosses", which by the way I cannot wait to see, and she went brunette!

Love it!

I personally love when stars go darker, I especially love when blonde stars go brunette. (I'm not 100% sure, but I do think Miranda Kerr is naturally brunette.) See following examples:

Not saying there is anything wrong with blonde, although being a brunette myself, I am somewhat bias. Going dark gives these women a more mysterious and sultry vibe.

So, if you are thinking of going dark, do it and show us pictures!!!

Loverly Weekend

Hello my loves!!!

I must say I had a pretty good weekend.

Joined a great weekend blog hop and found some great new bloggy friends!

Woke up to a great stormy Saturday morning. I looooove morning storms! Then, it was off to a very much needed Zumba class.

Followed by an amazing brunch with my amazing friend Megan. It was pretty amazing! FYI - I also had the BEST cafe latte. Yummm...

Finally got caught up house work. Have you ever been so behind on laundry that you start finding clothes you forgot you had?!?! Also, I ended up doing some late spring cleaning, now all my windows are so fresh and so clean.

Finished working/editing a wedding video for husbands cousin. (Well, almost finished, keep making changes!)

Watched two movies I had been wanting to watch for a while now.

Baked. Oh yes, I baked. I made a chocolate cake with, wait for it, Nutella buttercream frosting. I'm just gonna let that sink in for a minute. (Recipe to follow soon.) It was uh-flippin-mazing! It also meant that I got to use the brand new potholder I made!

Church, yard work and grocery shopping rounded out the weekend.

It wasn't a super exciting weekend, but sometimes being able to get caught up and not rushing around everywhere with a gajillion things to do is just perfect!

Why Did I Take That Picture?

You ever take random picture with your cell phone and later wonder why? It was the funniest or coolest thing ever when you took it, but a few weeks later, you are not quite sure what the big deal was about.

(I also love finding pics I forgot I had taken, ahhhh memories.)

This was just hilarious at the time. Husband blowing up a "Palm Tree Cooler" for my bro in laws bday party.

I love having breakfast at hotels, not just anything but the awesomely yellow, fluffy and delicious scrambled eggs. I know most of them are the "fake eggs", but I still love them! Maybe from all the traveling, moving and road trip vacations my family took.

This just makes me smile. Husband showing his nephew how to play guitar hero. Husband will make a great dad, and our kids will probably come out of the womb playing computer games.

I think this is the best diet drink, I believe I was going to write a post about it, but forgot, and now I think that would just be silly.

Well, this one is just too cute.

Well, I just thought buying a "Crave Case" of 25 White Castle burgers is pretty funny.

So we all know that the big trend in fair foods is to deep fry anything you can get your hands on. Twinkies, Krispy Kreme burgers (that's right Krispy Kreme BURGERS) and my favorite deep fried butter. (I feel greasy just writing this post.)

This season's hottest trend in deep fried state fair foods, deep fried Kool-Aid balls.

That's right folks, they have deep fried all the food so here come the deep fried drinks.

Ok, so they don't really just take a pitcher of Kool-Aid and drop it into a vat of oil. I guess mix Kool-Aid powder, flour and water, into a batter and then drop dollops into the oil.

OH YEA!

(Not really.)

Honestly though, considering that there is deep fried butter at state fairs, deep fried Kool-Aid may be on the "healthier" side. Ha! I guess you really can deep fry anything.

Things I Don't Understand

Really? Is there anyone out there who is able to shed some light on these phenomenons?!?!?!

1. Zombies - Am I the only one who doesn't get when or how the zombies fascination began? Everywhere I look there are zombie games(Facebook Apps), articles on how to survive a zombie attack and zombie flash mobs. (I'm lumping Vampires into this as well.)

3. Ed Hardy - Sigh...Why? How did this brand become synonymous with aging men, who tan too much and use too much hair gel. I also get the feeling they would smell like they bathed in some sort of nasty cologne. (See Jon Gosselin) I understand that Ed Hardy used to be a great tattoo artist, but it should have stopped there.

FYI, I have awarded him the Lifetime Achievement Award for Douchebaggery.

Finally...

3. Passengers who feel the need to stick their feet out the window of a moving vehicle. Again, why? I just want to drive up and smack the feet back into the car. Do you really need to be that comfortable in the car? Sigh...

Just a short post to show off my sister in laws new puppy! Her name is Gerdy and she is a Labrador/standard poodle mix, or if you want to be fancy, labra-doodle.

How flippin' cute right?!?!?!

FYI, I almost stole her, I mean I was so close to just picking her up and walking out of their house. We would haven been on the run, just me and ol' Gerdy. Two crazy gals finding crazy adventures, we would have been like Thelma and Louise and...wait, getting off track.

Things I Love

Ah yes, with Memorial Day came the unofficial start to summer. With that, here are a few things that I look forward to with the Summer season.

City Market - Mmmm...Yes, all the amazing fruit, veggies and flowers that keep me happy all summer long! Where else can you get a flat of beautiful delicious strawberries for $10? Or gorgeous annuals for $3! Or 12 limes for $1?!?!?! That's right I said one dollah! That sure makes me hollah.

Notice how there are two missing already? I ate 2lbs of strawberries in two days.

Finding awesome deals on winter/fall clothes that you can still wear in the summer - Ha, that was a long title, but it's my blog and I can have a long title if I want to. No, but seriously I found a shirt and pants at the GAP outlet for $1.97 and $2.98. That's right folks, step right up to the amazing Bargain Hunting Woman. She can sniff a great bargain out regardless of the store she is in.

Wearing dresses - Now, with the "awesome" wind we have here in Kansas, wearing shorter flowey skirts/dresses are not always an option. Which is why I love the maxi dress. So many cute ones this year, I hope this is one style that does not go away!!!

Iced coffee - I love coffee in general, but something about a nice cold coffee that is refreshing! Now, that I have a Magic Bullet I will be sure to make some homemade yummy "Karenccinos". See what I did there, a play on Starbucks' frappacinos. I knew you got it, you guys are so smart.

Dang, I really want a Karenccino. My Magic Blender and I are going to get to know each a little better now.

Growing Pains

Now that I am in my 30's, I should feel like an adult right, but I don't.

I have never felt like a "grown-up", more importantly, I don't want to grow up!

Although, recent events have transpired which have made me very aware of the fact that I am not that young anymore.

1. Dry Cleaning - I'm not sure why taking dry cleaning makes me feel grown up. Maybe it means that I have grown up clothes that need to be taken care of, instead of $10 shirts and dresses from Forever 21.

2. Going shopping and most of your purchases are made with work clothes in mind. Second thought, when most of the clothes in your closet are work clothes.

3. Vocabulary - Not using the word "like" 5 times in a sentence. Falling behind on the latest slang and feeling silly when trying to use any of the "it" phrases. So fly like a G6. See, can't do it.

FYI, these kids are 1000% cooler than I am.

4. Music/Movies/Books - Not being able to say catch phrases from awesome movies because no one gets it. Actually reading books to learn something on your own, not just for a class. Realizing all your favorite songs are on a radio station whose slogan is, "Bringing back the music you love."

6. Buying night cream and eye cream out of need, not prevention.

7. Realizing someone born in 1993 is 18. Also having a style of clothes you wore growing up coming back in style.

8. Calling college students "kids". This one really makes me want to cry.

9. Making sure you go to bed at a reasonable hour, even during vacation so you don't mess up your sleep schedule.

10. Going out to a friends party Friday night and still feeling the effects Monday morning.

Again, not sure if I will ever feel like I have grown up, but if i do, I hope I age gracefully.

Crazy Times!

Gah! These past two weeks have been insane to say the least!

Last week I was out most of the week due to an ugly thing called strep throat. OMG! It was horrible, never had it before and never want it again! I left work early on Tuesday and was out the rest of the week. Knocked me on my tushy that's for sure!

Although I did learn a few things from having strep throat:

1. It is possible to lose 5lbs in two days by eating nothing but chicken broth and ice cream.

2. There is a point when you become so cold that your skin hurts.

3. When the Dr. tells you to rest and stay in bed, you should probably do that. Otherwise you might almost fall down the stairs carrying a load of laundry.

4. My dogs can apparantly tell when I am sick. They were basically glued to me the whole I week I was home. I was in bed, they were in bed, I was in the kitchen, they were in the kitchen, I was in the bathroo...ok moving on.

5. You can turn your room into a humidifier by just turning the shower to hot and letting it run for a few minutes. Not gonna lie, but that felt really good.

Sunday I was almost 100% and finally got a few things done around the house. I was still not able to go see my moms for Mother's Day and I was so sad. I miss my momma.

Then one of my worst nightmares happened. The back gate was open and my beloved Snoopy was not in the yard. My heart dropped. Flashbacks of when he was a puppy were running through my head. You know, like a tv show montage with a Fray song playing in the background.

Five hours of driving, walking and emotional breakdowns ensued. Thankfully husband put an ad on Craigslist and the local animal shelter called and said they had him. Those words that sent me into another emotionally charged crying, sniveling and hysterical mess. Then seeing him at the shelter threw me into wails of joy. Bottom line I was a hot mess on Sunday. Worst 5 hours of my life.

He is back home now and the whole event hasn't even phased him, back home, doing what he does best.

After the week of sickness and Sunday of Doom, as I now refer to it, work has been crazy. Trying to get caught up from last week and helping prepare for an event this Thursday, has left me feeling out of breathe.

I have also been out of whack with my running program for almost a week and a half, so I am hoping to get back to it today. Hoping. Really hoping.

Wonderful Weekend Start!

Happy Friday my loves! My weekend is already off to a great start!

Great work event Thursday night. It made for a looong work day(15 hours), but it was well worth it! So today I worked my butt off and left a bit early.

Thunderstorms for two days in a row makes me happy. With the colder weather, I grabbed some delish turkey, mushroom and wild rice bisque. Wait, it gets better, in a sourdough bread bowl. Yumm!

Had a nice and easy run/elliptical workout. Getting set for a 4-mile run I signed up for on Sunday.

Now, looking forward toward a fun filled weekend!

That's right folks, I won and am now $350 smackaroo's richer! Plan on treating myself to a few new pairs of shoes and put the rest in the bank.

It's been a hard 3 months, but 22lbs and 10.5 inches later I am so glad I did it. Even if I hadn't won, I feel that I am finally back on track with my eating habits and workouts. I haven't felt this good in a while and I love it!

I am so excited that I won! It is a great feeling that something I worked so hard for has paid off. I am not finished yet, my next goal is another 20lb loss by June 12. Sexy summer dresses here I come!

I have a dream. I dream that cleaning my carpet/hardwood/tile floors will be a fun chore. I dream that one day I won't have to worry if the cord is long enough to reach. Here are a few small things that make me happy.

Finding the perfect pen. You know what I'm talking about, the pen that seems to make your handwriting beautiful. (FYI, I heart Sharpie Pens.)

Realizing that a simple activity you love to do burns more calories than you ever thought. Example: sewing, burns almost 40 calories an hour, and considering I can get lost sewing for a few hours it makes me smile.

Not having a very good healthy food weekend and still losing 2 pounds. (I ate a LOT of cake.)

Finding out that Coffee Mate is making their Peppermint Mocha creamer all year long!!!! So I can have that holiday feel whenever I want!

Smelling and seeing the flower trees beginning to bloom.

Getting excited that the weather is nice enough to start doing my weekly City Market run. Fresh fruits and veggies, here I come!

Just What I Needed

I must say, this weekend was one of the best weekends I have had in a long long time. It was just what I needed after a crazy few weeks!

Started Friday with a "Spring Fling" party at work. (Have I mentioned how much I love where I work?) Egg dying, egg hunt and egg relay, OH MY!

Finishing the cutest apron for the cutest niece, and I also made a mini apron for her American Girl doll. I will post more about that later. Yes, I am the greatest Aunt ever, thank you for asking!

Then birthday party for the cutest niece in the world. Yes, sorry people, but she takes the cake. Then she smears it all over her face. Had to put this pic up! Sorry everyone else, these are the cutest niece and nephews ever! (Have I said that enough already?)

Great Saturday morning run. 5 miles, thank you very much.

Surprise early b-day gift from sister and mother in law. So blessed! It's a pretty awesome purse right? I think so!

Bedroom Eyes

I've been trying to find a way to decorate our master bedroom. I always seem to take forever to decide on paint, curtains and well everything else. I think I'm just scared I will make a wrong decision and regret it!

Biggest Loser Update

Two more weeks left in my Biggest Loser contest at work. TWO WEEKS!!!

So far I have lost 15lbs. Which is great, but to be quite honest, I know I could have done better. But, I cannot beat myself up about this. The reason I made the contest 90 days is to teach myself that this is a life long commitment.

I have learned to not put myself down for a bad day or even a bad week. Each day is a new starting point. Just because I have a dessert after lunch, doesn't mean the rest of my day is shot. I tell myself, "Ok, I had a treat today, I will have a light dinner, or throw in an extra workout and move on with my life."

Self confidence is a powerful tool we have. Remembering that you are strong and deserve to be healthy is a great way to keep yourself on track and to not put yourself down.

I love food. I use food as a way to comfort myself and celebrate special occasions. Ok, really any occasion, “HEY! It’s Monday! Let’s eat!”

It has been a love/hate relationship. I love it because it tastes good! I hate it because, well, it tastes good!

FOOD. IS. SO. GOOD.

Trying new foods is the best. I will try any kind of food, I am an equal opportunity eater.

Although, I am in a lose lose situation when I find a new delicious food. Because, it is then cataloged, indexed and Dewey Decimal systemed into my brain. So then, at a later time, I can search my brain for some yumminess to crave when I am hungry or bored or it’s 3:00 on a Wednesday.

Thus brings up why I am writing this letter. I don’t appreciate your company creating the beautifully deliciousness that I tried for the first time yesterday.

It was UH-FLIPPIN-MAZING!

The Cadbury Egg. Seriously? How could I have gone my whole life without having one of these deliciously sweet, melt in your mouth eggs?

Sigh… Therein lies the problem. Now that I know what chocolaty creamy goodness is out there, I want one. All. The. Time. I want one now. Like I am going to stop typing, drive to the store and get one, or two, or, well you know how this goes.

So, in the future Cadbury Egg company, if you would refrain from making any more yummy goodness in the future, I would greatly appreciate it, scratch that, my hips and thighs would greatly appreciate it.

I'm not sure if I am more disgusted or sad about this.

Abercrombie & Stupid (I have never liked this company) have now come out with a push up bra bathing suit for little girls. I'm talking about LITTLE girls around 7 years old.

I mean come on! Who was the sicko that came out with this idea and who was the idiot that approved it?!?!?

I'm sorry, but with all the adult images kids are exposed to these days they are growing up so much faster than when I was a child (which really was not that long ago). Then to go and tell little girls that they should be worried about their bodies in a sexual way, just puts the nail in the coffin.

Laid To Rest

I'm sure you have all heard that on Wednesday Elizabeth Taylor past away from congestive heart failure.

Now, I am not one to really be affected by celebrity status. But, when an actor/actress/singer that has been in the spotlight since you were a child, it is a strange feeling that comes over you when they pass away.

Dame Elizabeth Taylor, was a larger than life figure who managed to make herself seem accessible to her loyal fans. She was not only a beautiful woman on the outside, but she was a great advocate in the fight against AIDS. She was so devoted to the cause she started the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation, which helps to fight the disease worldwide.

Her beauty captivated her audience and those she met throughout her life. A main component were her eyes. Everyone who met her marveled at her beautiful eyes, that to this day no one is really sure of. In many of her pictures they are a bright piercing blue, the ones that I love are when they are a gorgeous violet.

She will be greatly missed and I hope the younger generation will learn from her example.

Running Fool!

I have rediscovered my love for running.

Before husband and I were, well, husband and wife, I used to run all the time. I wasn't a super fast or huge distance runner, but I would do decently. My runs were up to around 3-5 miles a day (5-6 days a week) and I kept it around 8-9 minute miles. It was a pretty awesome feeling.

I started and stopped off and on during the past few years, but recently got my stride back (yes pun intended). Along with all this, I have signed up for some awesome runs in my area.

This year, oh yes, this year is going to be awesome! I have a 4 mile run on April 17th and a 10K on June 4th. The 10K, I am a bit nervous because it is known for it's challenging hills. The third run I have on my agenda so far is, well, pretty flippin' amazing.

The Day, The Music...

Alright. So, I know there are all types of music and music lovers, and I usually don't judge since I know there is some music husband wouldn't be caught dead listening too. BUT, I do believe, I have just seen the worst music video ever.

I'm sure I am the last person on earth to watch this since over 17 million viewers have seen it.
Just. Watch.

Ok, I realize the girl is very young and I shouldn't be so harsh, I mean I don't have a song that just bumped Justin Beiber out of the the top 40 downloads on iTunes right?

But, it makes me ask the question, "What has happened to all the real music?" What happened to hearing instruments, not just synthesized and distorted sounds. Where are the voices that aren't digitized, but sound so sweet they make you stop and just listen?

Example, the other day, Ray Charles' "Georgia On My Minds" came through my Pandora and it literally made me stop what I was doing and just listen. It is so good that I wanted to cry.

Aged Like A Fine Wine?

I have never really felt as if I was getting older. Until recently, radio stations I listen to, movie quotes I say and re-runs of shows I watch have really made me feel that I was "aging".

I am only 30, so my era is a mix of the 80's and 90's. That was my time, tight rolled jeans, high tops and New Kids on The Block. (My favorite was Jordan Knight, and yes I was a member of their fan club.)

Recently, when I sing clips of a song, my friend who is 6 years younger than I am, looks at me with blank stares. A few examples were Monica's "Just One of Them Days" and Seal's "Crazy". I think I felt my hair turning gray on the spot.

Then, a few co - workers and I started to talk about movies. As we were stating the movies we loved growing up, it was only met with blank stares and curiosity from the "young-uns". You would think a 6 year age gap doesn't seem enough to create such a difference in what we did/watched growing up. Although, when I was a senior in high school they were only in 7th grade. Sigh...

This is pretty much how I felt with them.

As you all know I love winter. Although it does have its time and place, and with beginning of March, it is time for spring.

My favorite part of spring. Thunderstorms. I love the rolling thunder and the sound of rain against the windows.

I also love listening to music and blogging.

I love drinking coffee and reading a good book.

I love baking and playing with the puppies.

My favorite thing to do? Take a nap, not a deep sleep, but that place right before a deep sleep where you can still hear the rain and thunder. So relaxing.

In my previous post I had listed numerous things I had wanted to accomplish over the weekend, and well I did it!

Here is a list of some of the things I did:

Got caught up and had the pleasure to visit a lot of new followers from various blog hops. Thank you for following!

Purged, purged and purged some more. I am pretty much done with the main part of the house, the basement storage will have to be for another weekend.

Yes, these are all my clothes that I don't wear or don't know why I even purchased. I also took a large amount of pans, small appliances and other various items I haven't used in quite a while.

Finally rearranged my living room and pulled out a lot of decor that has been in storage.

Please don't mind the dog Frisbee on the floor and Snoopy staring out the window. He dreams of chasing all the birds and squirrels in our front yard.

Made some fabric wall art:

I plan on moving these downstairs to a light colored wall and making a new decoration to put in its place, will keep you updated.

These are all from my camera phone, I think I need to invest in a nice camera.

I also made a skirt and two aprons. Baked a delicious and healthy banana bread and homemade chicken pot pie. I also found a super delish green tea smoothie, just in time for spring/summer. Recipes and pics to come in a later post!

Tonight is a perfect end to the weekend, thunderstorm outside, just had some of the homemade chicken pot pie and the banana bread is cooling (calling my name).

All in all a very good (busy) weekend. I hope you all had a great weekend!!!

Spring Fever?

It's almost March and I thought Spring was on it's way. We have had 50's here in the Midwest, until yesterday. Rain, sleet and snow, Oh My!

I had about a 1/2 inch of slushy ice/snow on my car when I left work today and ended up getting about 3 inches at my house when it was all said and done. FYI ice under snow does not make for good times.

Don't get me wrong, I love winter, but I think my body and mind are ready for spring. Mostly because I have been having the urge to organize and clean like a mad woman.

Here are a few of the things I have done and are planning to do.

I have rearranged my living room, and now all that is missing is a gorgeous rug. I'm thinking something along these lines.

I reorganized my kitchen and am thinking about painting it. The fun part is picking out a new color! Then off to the guest room. Which quite frankly has turned into the "I don't know what to do with all this extra stuff (junk), so I will put it in this room, room." Oh Lordy it is time to purge!

I am also wanting to create some "fabric art", like this:

I am also still needing to organize my closet, I have cleaned and weeded out clothes/purses/shoes I don't wear or wonder how I ever thought were cute. I am in love with this closet and hope that I can install something similar soon!

These past few weeks at work have been, well, stressful. Unfortunately due to my own fault, so this is going to be a great outlet for me to get my brain and sanity back on track.

Now, I have it in my head that all this is going down this weekend, we shall see how far I get. Although if I do complete my "to do" list, I will award myself with this:

Biggest Loser - Puppy Edition

We are in full swing with the Biggest Loser at work. After a few slow weeks, K-Lish (tying out a new nickname) is now down 9lbs. That's right folks, I have lost a toy poodle.

Inspired and invigorated, I am starting my love Snoopy on his own weight loss journey.

That's right folks, the dog to your right. Well, due to the comfortable life he leads, he has packed on quite a few pounds. Being an old man (7) and being "husky" is not a good combo. We need to get him down to George Clooney level, stat! We are aiming for 10lb. loss for Snoops.

I started his new food regimen today and he very clearly made it known he was not happy. Standing by his bowl howling for about a good hour, and well, there he goes again.

Aroooo!Aroooo! Translated to human speech is "Get off that laptop and feed me woman!"

So, I will keep you updated not only on my contest and weight loss, but his progress and well.

Sigh...

Today made me realize how happy I am with husband.

We have been together for a while now. Married 8 years this April and been together almost 13 years.

Ok, so obviously not us. But, I really do feel that old. Really.

Being with someone that long you get to know them pretty darn well. All their little quirks and habits no one else witnesses except you. Some cute and make you smile, some, well...

Today I asked husband a question over gchat and this is pretty much how it went:

Me: Hey, what is that thing that you can scan that square thing and it brings up something? You know what I'm talking about?

Husband: You mean qr code?

Me: Yes! I'm so glad you understand Karenism. :)

It's The Little Things

I have been struggling with this issue for my whole life. It happens every week, sometimes twice a week. It has been the bain of my existence.

Shopping carts.

This little girl feels my pain.

Everytime I walk into the grocery store, I have a moment of panic and hope. Panic of how many wheels will be off center. How loud will this one be. Will it shake so bad that I should have worn a sports bra? Then hope, maybe today will be the day I get a regular working cart.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I have lived with this fear ever since I have been going to the grocery store. Today was a new day. Today, I picked a cart that drove smoothly, never made noise and never stopped mid stroll.

My faith in humanity has been restored and I again live with the hope that each time I grab a cart, it will work correctly.

Ah yes, the little things.

It Hurts!

The pain.

Went to a core class last Friday and I am still so sore. Very very very sore. Sore.

My core is not at all the strongest part of my body, unfortunately, it is the weakest. I can run, spin and ZUMBA like crazy. Put me on a balance ball and I am done! It hurts so much it burns! I guess that means it's working right? Right?!?!?!

Yes, we did this move. It sucks.

By the way, did I mention I am sore?

I am planning on going back this Friday. Masochist much? I have also been doing more of the strength exercises on the Wii too. I am 30, but according to my Wii, I am well, not 30. We shall meet again Wii, We shall meet again.

I need to win the Biggest Loser contest at work. With $450 smackaroos on the line, I NEED this. Momma needs a new pair of shoes. Literally, I need some new work shoes.

Well, it is going to be a great day! Going to a friends house to watch a movie and some homemade enchiladas! Better do a hardcore workout to make up for some calories! Then settle in with the puppies and watch some awesome performances and cheer on my favorite artists!

I am a huge fan of football, college or pro, so watching the Super Bowl is a yearly must for me. Although folks, this year is a very special game, my Green Bay Packers are taking down the Pittsburgh Steelers.

I cannot wait! It is going to be a great day! Food, friends and football what could be better?!?!?!?!

I love this recipe! So easy and yummy! I got this recipe from Giada and try to make at least once a week.

Ravioli with Brown Butter Sauce

1 bag of frozen Ravioli, cheese or beef ( you can use tortellini as well)
6 tablespoons of unsalted butter
2 tablespoons of balsamic vinegar
salt/pepper to taste
chopped walnuts
shredded Parmesan cheese

Bring your pot of water to a boil and cook ravioli according to directions. Drain and set aside. In a saucepan melt the butter until golden brown, take off heat and add balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper. Toss with ravioli and top with walnuts and parmesan cheese.

How flippin easy was that?!? This is one of my go to recipes when I don't feel like cooking a big meal. I didn't have the walnuts on hand in my picture, it still tastes good, but doesn't have that crunch.

Second Coming Armaggedon Blizzard of 2011

Yes people, the Blizzard of 2011 has hit the midwest and moving up towards the northeast. Meteorologists are saying this could be the worst storm to hit the KC area in 20 years!

The camera on my phone can't capture the snowfall coming down, but you can see how "foggy" it looks from the snow.

Can't even tell where the driveway ends and the street begins!

Some areas are slated to get about 26 inches of snow! Now, I am not gonna lie, I love it. It feels like I am living in a snow globe.

With all this snow, work has been canceled for husband and I. Actually, the whole Kansas City area seems to have come to a halt. With being snowed in, here are a few things that I am excited to do.

New Favorite!

With the new year one big resolution is to watch the budget.

So husband and I are tightening our purse strings and trying to pad the ol' savings account.

I have found a hair product that I LOVE and is a pretty good substitute for the more expensive brand.

I have always used and loved Redken's Glass. If you have never tried it, it is uh-flippin mazing! It smooths your hair and makes it shine like none other. I really do love this product and if I have some extra dough, I might splurge.

To save about $10, I have found a new product that is a pretty close to the Redken brand.

Yes, the Garnier Sleek & Shine is a pretty good substitute for the real thing. I highly recommend.

Golden Globes Recap

Happy Monday Everyone!

Anyone catch the Golden Globes Sunday night? I did and it did not disappoint. From all the beautiful gowns to the crazy host, I was very pleased!

Ricky, oh Ricky.

Everyone is talking about Ricky Gervais and how he insulted everyone and ticked off the Hollywood Foreign Press. How could you book Ricky and not expect this? Really? You know who he is, you know the types of jokes he tells, so why are you so surprised and upset?

I also wanted to touch upon one particular presenter, Tilda Swinton.

Now, I don't ever remember watching her in a movie, and I'm not saying that she is a bad actress or anything like that. But this woman freaks me out! Especially after watching her present, something about the way she looked and her voice just rubbed me the wrong way. There was no smile or any semblance of happiness to be there. Did anyone see this? Am I the only one who feels this way?

Moving on the pretty and fun part of the evening. Dresses!!!!

Here are some of my favorites!

Olivia Wilde, um hello Evening Dress Barbie! Love it!

Natalie Portman. I love dresses that show a baby bump!!! Now, I know a lot of the "Fashion Police" did not like this dress, but I thought it was so cute.

Emma Stone. Uh-flippin-mazing! She went back to her roots and went blonde and looked fabulous!!! That dress is killer!

Mila Kunis. Gorgeous!!! This emerald green is just perfect on her.

Now, here are some of my not so favorites. I seemed to notice a "vintage" theme. Not all vintage should be worn. There were a lot of sparkle, shoulder pads and Designer Women-esque dresses.

Angelina Jolie. I'm sorry, yes she may be the golden goddess of Hollywood, but I did not like this dress. I was waiting for her to morph into Joan Collins circa the Dynasty Era.

Michelle Williams. Really? It's not a bad dress, maybe an afternoon tea dress, but not a Golden Globes dress.

January Jones. Sigh. It's like she was at a call back for the Fifth Element The Sequel. Not a good look.

Now, those aren't all the best and worst, but just the ones that stood out for me. I am adding one more photo, Michael Douglas. As he went out onto the stage he was greeted by a standing ovation. He then said,"There's got to be an easier way." Welcome back Michael!

Ok, I know I just did a post on Clean House, so I thought I would keep the reality show theme going.

Remember Vanilla Ice? For any of you youngsters reading this, I have included a video for your enjoyment. Ok, mostly for my enjoyment, this was my jam back in the day.

Well, I'm glad this is a blog and not a vlog, 'cause I just broke it down old school during the video and I'm pretty out of breath.

Moving on.

Vanilla Ice has a reality tv show! No, it is not another Surreal Life. (You will need to find a clip of that on your own, because my blog doesn't deserve to have that shown on it.) This show is on the DIY network and is called the Vanilla Ice Project.

He flips houses and apparently he is pretty gosh darn good at it. Looks like this "lyrical poet" knows some stuff about contracting. I watched a whole episode and well, he actually knew what he talking about.

It is yet another reality tv show that I am hooked on. There are big changes coming! Niecy Nash is leaving!!! Yes, yes I was very surprised and upset as much as you all were.

Sunday Morning Goodness

One of the many things I love about Sunday morning is breakfast. It's a big un' with bacon, eggs and biscuits with sausage gravy. I'm not trying to brag, but husband seems to greatly appreciate my breakfast skillz. I used to make this every Sunday morning until I realized I wanted husband to live long enough to see his 30th birthday. I still try to make it often enough, but now it's more pancakes and eggs.

This is definitely not a breakfast for those watching their figure. This is a fat filled, carb loaded greasy goodness. Even the eggs are fried in the left over bacon grease, see what I mean, awesomely good. Sigh, it will be awhile until I make this wonderfully fatty breakfast again, the Biggest Loser contest starts Tuesday at work.

Now, the recipe for this breakfast is super easy. Cook bacon, eggs and the biscuits like you normally would. I use the premade Phillsbury buttermilk biscuits. The gravy depends on your taste, here is how I normally make it.
Fry a package of country sausage, then sprinkle enough flour to soak up all the yummy sausage grease and the sausage is nicely coated. Then add enough milk to your desired thickness. I usually use no more than a half gallon of 2% milk. Yes, it makes a lot of gravy.

The plate below is mine, I am not a big fan of bacon (gasp!), too salty for my taste.

I am so glad it's the weekend!

This was the first week back from an extended holiday vacation and it was haaaaaard!

It was non stop go from 8:30 Monday morning to 5:00 on Friday. Usually being busy makes the week go by quickly, but nooooo. Not this time. It was so depressing when I woke up on Wednesday and I thought it was Friday. I'll let Britney show you how I felt.

I am so pumped for the weekend. Not because of any elaborate plans, but because I have no obligations and nothing to do. That's right folks. Not. One. Darn. Thing.

I am gonna chill, veg out and relax. Especially with an impending snow storm coming my way, which makes me all the more excited! I might just do some baking, make some hot chocolate and unwind with a great book.

She is rockin' that new body! We are starting a new Biggest Loser contest at work and I am so inspired by her! Check her out!!!

I think this before and after deserves a ,"Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaam Girl!"

I've got a few goals I hope to accomplish by the end of the 90 days of the Biggest Loser:
*Please cue "We are The Champions" song here...

Go down 2 dress sizes. Lofty goal, but when you have as much junk in your trunk (and hood) as I do, it's totally possible.
Be ready for a 5k by March 17. I am hoping for a time of 35 minutes. (Don't make fun of my time, just starting to get back into running)
Ready and fit for my uber challending 10k in June. It is called the "Hospital Hill Run", and is known for it's horrible hills. If you don't see any blog posts from me after June 4, I am probably still laying on the pavement.
Get my body baby ready! I am so ready to start cooking a bun in my oven. I swear I think my body ovulates every time I hold a baby.

I'll keep you guys updated as the contest starts. Can't wait to start!!!

Cinnamon Rolls...Must Read!!!

I can't believe that I have not put my favorite cinnamon roll recipe on my blog yet. Thanks to The Pioneer Woman.

I highly encourage you to make these. Do it. Right now. Well, read the post first then go.

1 quart Whole Milk
1 cup Vegetable Oil
1 cup Sugar
2 packages Active Dry Yeast
8 cups (Plus 1 Cup Extra, Separated) All-purpose Flour
1 teaspoon (heaping) Baking Powder
1 teaspoon (scant) Baking Soda
1 Tablespoon (heaping) Salt
Plenty Of Melted Butter
2 cups Sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
Generous Sprinkling Of Cinnamon

MAPLE FROSTING:

1 bag Powdered Sugar
2 teaspoons Maple Flavoring
½ cups Milk
¼ cups Melted Butter
¼ cups Brewed Coffee
⅛ teaspoons Salt

Preparation Instructions

Mix the milk, vegetable oil and sugar in a pan. Scald the mixture (heat until just before the boiling point). Turn off heat and leave to cool 45 minutes to 1 hour. When the mixture is lukewarm to warm, but NOT hot, sprinkle in both packages of Active Dry Yeast. Let this sit for a minute. Then add 8 cups of all-purpose flour. Stir mixture together. Cover and let rise for at least an hour.
After rising for at least an hour, add 1 more cup of flour, the baking powder, baking soda and salt. Stir mixture together. (At this point, you could cover the dough and put it in the fridge until you need it – overnight or even a day or two, if necessary. Just keep your eye on it and if it starts to overflow out of the pan, just punch it down).
When ready to prepare rolls: Sprinkle rolling surface generously with flour. Take half the dough and form a rough rectangle. Then roll the dough thin, maintaining a general rectangular shape. Drizzle 1/2 to 1 cup melted butter over the dough. Now sprinkle 1 cup of sugar and half the brown sugar over the butter followed by a generous sprinkling of cinnamon.
Now, starting at the opposite end, begin rolling the dough in a neat line toward you. Keep the roll relatively tight as you go. Next, pinch the seam of the roll to seal it.
Spread 1 tablespoon of melted butter in a seven inch round foil cake or pie pan. Then begin cutting the rolls approximately ¾ to 1 inch thick and laying them in the buttered pans.
Repeat this process with the other half of the dough. Let the rolls rise for 20 to 30 minutes, then bake at 400 degrees (see note below) until light golden brown, about 15 to 18 minutes.
For the frosting, mix together all ingredients listed and stir well until smooth. It should be thick but pourable. Taste and adjust as needed. Generously drizzle over the warm rolls. Go crazy and don’t skimp on the frosting.
If you don't like the coffee don't worry about adding it also you can use vanilla instead of maple as well.

By the way, this recipe makes around 7 round pans of rolls. Believe me though, they will not last long.

Warms My Heart

I am not a big fan of commercials. The only time I really watch them is during the Super Bowl and really, they have not been living up to expectations the last few years.

Recently, I have fallen in love with the new Disney commercials. They make me smile, warm my heart and unfortunately, during the right "time", make me cry.

I love how they use real families. It brings me back to the days when my family use to go. I was pretty lucky, my American grandparents lived near Orlando, so I have been numerous times. It was always an awesome experience.

Drivers Ed

I would like to create a new law.

I think that it should be a law that everyone has to take a whole semester of learning how to yield and merging. I swear, did anyone not remember that part during driver's ed?

I am not saying I am the best driver in the world, I do make mistakes, but seriously people. Merge does not mean speed up and try to beat the car already going 65mph. It also does not mean that you should drive the same speed as the car that has the right of way and then get mad, speed up and flip me off because I didn't yield to you. Yes you, the person who had the yield sign.

How do we get this law thing going? I think I need to watch an episode of School House Rock to jog my memory. You guys know what I'm talking about!

Will I Ever Learn?

Why? Why do I go to the grocery store when I am hungry? I know this is a bad idea, yet I still do.

The consequences are getting about tons of crap that I just don't need.

and last but not least, I got the ingredients to make homemade pizza for lunch and homemade buffalo wings for dinner. Sigh...

Please keep in mind that it is just me and husband, it's not like we have a family of four to feed. Also keep in mind all I really was needing at the store were eggs, milk and some easy stuff to make for lunch this week. Lastly, I am also training for my 10K in June. Good idea to eat all this crap while running right?

Happy New Years my friends!!!

Hope everyone had a great evening and great fun ringing in the new year!

I love new years, it is just a time to start fresh and gives me a feeling that anything can happen!

I am not making a whole lot of resolutions, since I have started my 101 in 1001 list for the Day Zero Project. Although, here are my main goals for this year.

Be healthy. Not just physically but mentally as well. That means taking care of myself and take time and doing things just for me.

Be brave. This includes trying new things and experiences, even if it is on my own, and not let others' expectations and limits prohibit me from meeting and exceeding my own goals and expectations.

A Few of My Favorite Things...

During this Holiday season and New Years, I have reflected on some things that I love and just wanted to share.

Cold weather - Yes, I have been told I am a freak for loving cold weather. By the way, not just snow cold, but I am talking 0 with a -20 wind chill cold.

Furry/Puffy Vests - I don't like wearing winter coats, I am always hot and they are so bulky and annoying to me. That is why I LOVE vests. I hope they never go out of style!

Shopping deals - In particular a $14.00 Vera Wang purse. LOVE!

My favorite thing about the holidays are spending time with family and friends. Seeing people who you love and who love you back. People who put up with my craziness, my weird quirks and my well, everything. Giving presents to my niece and nephews who I adore more than anything!!! It makes me feel so good when Aunt Kiki (that's me) gives them something they love!

Soooo, I have a new favorite item.

Footed pajamas.

I was very curious about these, I did not know if they would make me feel claustrophobic or up my body temperature from an already 1000 degrees to the surface of the sun hot. Alas, since the pj's are a two piece set I can wear a tank of and regulate my body temp.

The momil got me a set for Christmas, and I am in love! I have worn them everyday since I have received them. I have also ended up shock the @*#&$^ out of myself as well. FYI, a fleece Snuggie and fleece pj's make you into a human power plant.

I am on the verge of pulling a Peter Griffin when he bought a pair of footed pj's and never took them off.

I am not sure if I would feel the same way if they were the one piece, I think I would really feel confined.

Anyone out there have a one piece? How is it? Should I try?

Would you try them? If you did, would you keep feeling yourself up like the ladies in the video? That made me a bit uncomfortable. I was waiting for a man to ring the doorbell and say he was the pool boy.

I'm thinking these "pants" are gonna be seen a lot in the People of WalMart website soon.

Maybe I'm wrong, maybe this will be a new "Snuggie" phenom. Although I might go to an extra church service to beg that it does not happen.

Can't Stand It!!!

Sooooo, it's been 4:30 for about an hour now.

I am out of the office from Dec. 22 to Jan. 3 and I cannot wait! So much to do to get ready for the holidays and so excited to get some work done around the house.

But, of course time seems to have mysteriously slowed to a crawl. I feel like a kid waiting for summer break.

Time for a pity party!!!!

A friend and I were talking the other day and the conversation turned into what we hated paying for. You know, things you never thought of having to buy in the shelter of your parents house. Things that make you start realizing that, maybe, you are becoming a grown up.

Beauty Products.

Now, I'm not talking about the fun eye shadows and latest lipstick which you used to buy with your allowance. I'm talking about moisturizer, toner, cleanser, liquid foundation, powder foundation, shampoo and conditioner. All of which tend to get more expensive the older and the more care you need. Also, I do not like buying feminine products. Seriously, $8.00 for some cotton and string! Come on people!

Laundry Detergent.

It's here!

The cold, windy and snowy season is upon us here in the midwest.

I could not be happier (I am not being sarcastic). I really do love winter. Right now it is 18 with a wind chill of 4. That means that the wind makes the temprature feel like 4 instead of 18. Awesome isn't it????

I was also out all day shopping and getting ideas for presents. A bit late yes I know, but I just cannot get presents early. I have a horrible to need to tell the person what I got them. I just get so excited I can't stand it!

I have also found an amazing sugar cookie and sugar cookie frosting recipe and I cannot wait to make! Pictures to come later.

I have to go grab a few clips to hang my garland on the banister and all the decor is done. I've gotten some presents. Finally, the weather is feeling like winter.

Sadness and Anger

Elizabeth Edwards passed away this past week at the age of 61 due to complications with her 6 year battle with breast cancer.

I am not a very political person, but the fact that she went through what she did with her husband's cheating scandal and battled breast cancer for 6 years and stayed a strong, positive and active woman is very extraordinary. She was an advocate and gave a voice to some of those who could not speak up for themselves.

As I was reading about her passing, I came across an article that stated that the Westboro Baptist Church will be picketing her funeral. I cannot begin to tell you how upset this makes me. They say that she is "going to hell" because she said she doubted her faith when her oldest son passed away in 1996.

For those of you who do not know about the Westboro Baptist Church, they are are horrible group that are an affront and a disgrace to those who are actual Christians. This is a group of ~~people~~ monsters who call themselves Christians picket soldiers funerals as well. Just Google them and you will see, even their home URL is horrible!

This "church" unfortunately in Topeka, KS so living not even an hour away from Topeka, we get to hear a lot, and see a lot of their protests. They even have their children, even young at 5 holding up signs with despicable phrases about going to hell and how God hates the US and others that I cannot even repeat because of how vile the words are.

Let up hope that Elizabeth Edwards funeral will not be marred by this protest. Let us hope that everyone will remember her for the causes she supported and the positivity that she seemed to have throughout her struggles.

I'm all for new trends and out there styles, but these? Really???

Teva has come up with these "hiking" heels.

Who came up with these in the brainstorming meeting, and who in the world thought it was a good enough idea to make them?!?!?!?!

These bring flashbacks of middle school, when every 13 year old boy wore these with white socks and Umbro shorts were a staple in everyone's closet. Remember that? I know you do!

Three reasons as to why these are just wrong:

1. If you are wearing these heels while "hiking", you really aren't "hiking", and I'm pretty sure if wore these, you will be carried back with two sprained ankles.

2. They about as bad as when hiking boots had heels. (Thank you J-Lo for that horrible fashion trend.)

3. I believe the cardinal rule still applies here, NO SOCKS WITH SANDALS!!!.

Oh yes, did I mention they cost $330.00?????

Have any of you heard of the "Day Zero Project"?

Well, I am starting that today. It is a really neat premise, you choose the top 101 things that you want to do and you have 1001 days to complete them. They don't have to be huge things, for example, I am going to try and send out holiday cards this year. See, easy as pie. Other items are huge milestones for me, I put down running a marathon as one, so you see you can choose anything to put on this list.

I still have not come up with the 101 things, only 45, but I am sure I will before the time is up. You can go to the Day Zero Project site here and find out more info for yourself, then you can go here to see what I have put down so far.

FYI, it helps if you play "Eye of the Tiger" while making your list.

I will try and keep up with updates here, hopefully weekly or more realistically monthly.

A Moment on the Lips, Forever on the Hips...

Any FRIENDS fans out there? Remember the line, "A moment on the lips, forever on the hips."?

Reading an article about the worst coffee drinks today make me think of that quote. Especially when it came down to the #1 choice which was the:

Say wha.......?!?!?!?!?!?

That is crizazy!!! I mean, that is my allotted calories for the day plus some! That better be darn good "latte" , I use the term latte very loosely here. I think I just gained 5lbs reading about the darn drink.

I understand that Coldstone Creamery does have some gosh darn good ice cream, but wow, this is just maybe a tad bit much, don't you think?

Has anyone had this sugar monstrosity? Was it worth it?

I mean come on!!! Is it really fair that these two amazingly beautiful people are together.

I cannot wait until the procreate. Their children will be so beautiful that they will just be walking beams of light with the Hallelujah chorus playing constantly.

Little back story...

When husband and I started dating and the all important parental introductions came around, dad asked,"What's his name?"
I replied, "Anthony."
"Ok, Anthony, I'll call him Tony."
"No dad, he doesn't like Tony, just Anthony."
The doorbell rings and future husband comes in the front door.
Dad then yells,"Hey! It's Tony the Tiger!"
Fast forward to present day, enter "the shirt".

There are a few artists that make me all warm and fuzzy inside and I am so happy that the beautiful Adele is going to bless us with another album.

Why Reading Directions is a Good Thing!

Yes, a basic concept, but reading directions CAREFULLY is a very important detail when baking/cooking.

I made some pumpkin pies last night. Well, I attempted to make pumpkin pies last night. After baking the pies, I kept wondering why they weren't setting, the top of the pies were nice and firm, but once you cut it, it was still very mushy. The directions say to bake for 50 minutes at 375. I did, then baked it for another 50 minutes and it would still not set. (Insert frustration here.)

Here is why, when the directions say use 2 cups of pumpkin, use 2 cups, not 2 CANS!

*sigh, such a Karen move.

Husband said they still tasted good, just mushy, he is so sweet isn't he??? I do plan on redeeming myself tomorrow night. I will keep you all updated!!!

By the way, I am not a big fan of pumpkin pie, so maybe my subconscious was sabotaging my pie making skills. Thing's that make you go hmmm.... SABOTAGE!!! (Ok, when you read that, how many of you heard it in the style of Beastie Boys????)
